World Oceans Day /
On June 8th, 2019, World Oceans Day, HYDY joined other local LA communities and took part in a Beach Cleanup at Venice Beach, CA.
The event was initiated by Tap, a start-up which creates an app for locating water refilling stations at national and international destinations.
The cleanup was supported by local companies, such GoBrick, Cariuma, Unalome, CarbonLite and Bumble, who also support the idea of sustainability, conservation and environmental protection.
LA locals of all ages took this opportunity and got together to support the cause. It was especially meaningful as the day fell on World Oceans Day.
In addition to the cleanup, participants were challenged by Tommy Sobel, founder of GoBrick, to go phone-free for the one hour duration of the cleanup. The meaning behind it was to get people to actually communicate with one another, and be present.
After the 1 mile trek along the beach, or “3 lifeguard stands distant” as the participants called it, cleanup, trash such as cigarettes, straws, plastic wrap, and lots of tar, was picked up, collected. The event concluded with some relaxing time at the Venice beach with some volleyball games and refreshments.
